Vintage Embroidered Runner

$75.00

Back in the day, these were called dresser scarves; maybe your grandmother had one! Sweet and feminine, dresser scarves were popular in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.

The vintage of this piece is estimated to be the 1950s, as the delicate crochet edging appears to have been done by machine. These “scarves” were popularly marketed in that period as kits that were edge-finished and then stamped with a pattern for the maker to hand-embroider, often with matching pillowcases.

We love the sweet motif on this piece of little songbirds (evidenced by the musical score!) carrying flowers and clusters of flowers with leaves.

This piece was indeed hand-embroidered, and the delicate stitching is in beautiful condition, no broken threads at all. The ground fabric of white cotton is likewise in pristine condition, with no yellowing, stains or holes - quite rare in a cotton piece that’s probably close to 70 years old.

Imagine how adorable this piece would look on a child’s dresser or used as table decor for a vintage-themed wedding or baby shower.
